I am a professional actor with TV, Film and Stage credits, and a current member of the Screen Actors Guild. This involves seeking out casting agencies for auditions, preparing for auditions, and ultimately preparing to play a role if cast. That preparation includes making specific choices about the character I will be playing, memorizing the lines and ultimately carrying out an authentic, entertaining performance.

College: Kent State University (BS, Class of 2001)
Pre-Employment Experience
I played soccer through most of high school. But in my senior year I decided to audition for the school play – and when I was cast, I quickly discovered my love for performance and started me down the path of becoming a professional performer. In college I created, wrote and produced a sketch comedy TV show for campus TV with my friends and managed to get gigs as Board operator and on-air talent at local radio stations. Once I graduated college and moved to Boston, I took classes at the Improv Asylum and eventually got cast as a performer there. This ultimately led to years of performing comedy and eventually landing TV and Film roles.
List of classes that are most important/applicable to succeed in your profession:
Theater and acting classes and improv training should be your foundation. But if you have an interest in this, the best thing you can do is seek out auditions. That along puts you on the radar of theater companies and casting directors – and if cast in something, that tangible performance experience will do the most to help you develop into a performer.

Advice From A Leader
Beyond seeking out auditions and going through the actual audition process, the most fun part of preparation is…watching and experiencing performance! I strongly recommend going to see as much live theater as possible, and I am always happy to offer recommendations on great theaters and plays to seek out.
